Investment for environmental protection of the industrial enterprises

Istat makes available the results of the survey, referring to 2008, on environmental protection expenditure by industrial companies given for the first time according to the classification of economic activities Nace Rev.2 and collected through two different statistical surveys: the sample survey on enterprises with 1-99 persons employed and the census survey on enterprises with 100 and more persons employed.

In 2008, the expenditure in investment for environmental protection of the enterprises in industry excluding construction totaled 1,853 million euro, of which 1,464 million euro for investment in “end-of-pipe” plant and equipment and 389 million euro for investment in plants and equipment linked to “integrated technology”.

In 2008, investments for environmental protection per person employed, on average, were equal to 407 euros, while investments for environmental protection represented 3,8 percent of gross fixed investment made by enterprises.
