Industrial production index

The index measures the monthly evolution of the volume of industrial production (excluding construction). Since January 2009 the indices have been calculated with reference to the base year 2005 using the new Ateco 2007 classification (Italian edition of Nace Rev. 2).

In March 2010 the industrial production seasonally adjusted index decreased by 0.1% compared with the previous month. The percentage change of the average of the quarter Jan.-Mar with respect to the previous quarter was +1.4.

The calendar adjusted industrial production index increased by 6.4 % compared with March 2009 (calendar working days being 23 versus 22 days in March 2009); in the quarter Jan.-Mar. 2010 the percentage change was +3.1 compared with the same quarter of 2009.

The unadjusted index of industrial production increased by 8.7% compared with March 2009.
