Industrial production index

The index measures the monthly evolution of the volume of industrial production (excluding construction). Since January 2009 the indices are calculated with reference to the base year 2005 using the new Ateco 2007 classification (Italian edition of Nace Rev. 2).

In December 2009 the industrial production index seasonally adjusted decreased by 0.7% compared with the previous month. The percentage change of the average of the last three months with respect to the previous three months was –0.8.

The calendar adjusted industrial production index fell by 5.6% compared with December 2008 (1 calendar working day more in December 2009 than in December 2008); in the average of 2009 the index decreased by 17.5% compared to the average of the previous year.
The unadjusted index of industrial production declined by 2.3% compared with December 2008.
