Quarterly turnover indices in other services

Indices of turnover in other services measure the quarterly change recorded in sales, at current prices, by firms belonging to a subset of the entire domain. Since the first quarter of 2009 the indices have been calculated with reference to the base year 2005 using the new Ateco 2007 classification (Italian edition of Nace Rev. 2).

In the fourth quarter of 2009 the turnover index of Wholesale trade, except of motor vehicles and motorcycles, decreased by 5.3% compared with the same quarter of 2008: a strong fall has been registered in all sub-sectors, with a peak of -12.2% in wholesale of other machinery, equipment and supplies.

A negative trend has been recorded in most of the other sectors, when compared with the same quarter of the previous year. Turnover index of Water transport declined by 5.8%, Postal and courier activities by 5.1%, Information and communication by 4.0%, with a peak for IT and other information services (-5.0%).
On the other hand, slight increases have been registered by sectors as Maintenance and repair of motor vehicles (0.2%) and Air transport (1.3%).

On a yearly base, the average turnover change in 2009, compared with 2008, recorded a fall of 11.1% in Wholesale trade, except of motor vehicles and motorcycles, -20.9% in Air transport, -12.6% in Water transport, -6.1% in Postal and courier activities and -4.1% in Information and communication.
