Production index in the construction sector

Starting from December 2010, Istat releases the monthly production index in construction. The index approximates the monthly evolution of the output of the construction sector. Indices are calculated with reference to the base year 2005 using the new Ateco 2007 classification (Italian edition of Nace Rev. 2).

In December 2010 the seasonally adjusted index decreased by 0.3% compared with the previous month. The percentage change of the average of the quarter October-December with respect to the previous quarter was -2.7%.

The calendar adjusted index of production in construction sector increased by 0.1% compared with December 2009 (calendar working days being 22 versus 21 days in December 2009); in the average of 2010 the index decreased by 3.5% compared to the average of the previous year.
The unadjusted index of production in construction sector increased by 3.7% compared with December 2009.
