Foreign trade

Istat presents data on Italy’s foreign trade as well as unit value and volume indices (base year 2005=100) referring to June 2011. The results of the flash estimates on extra-EU trade for June 2011 has been disseminated on July 21st.

• In June 2011 seasonally-adjusted data, compared to May 2011, presented a decrease of -0.8% for export and -4.1% for imports. A more intensive decrease is recorded on EU markets: -1.4% for exports and -5.7% for import. In extra EU markets, imports dropped by 2.2%, while exports were stable. Over the last three months, seasonally-adjusted data, in comparison with the previous three months, showed an increase for outgoing flows (+1%) and a decrease for incoming flows (-0.4%).

• In June 2011, compared with the same month of the previous year, trade raised by 8.1% for exports (7.8% for non EU countries and 8.3% for EU area) and by 3.2% (+8.1% for non EU and -0.6% for EU countries) for imports. The trade balance amounts to -1.8 billion Euro (table 1) compared with -3.2 billion Euro registered in the same month of 2010.

• In the first six months of 2011, compared with the same period of the previous year, trade increased by 15.8% for exports (+18.7% for non EU countries and +13.7% for EU area) and by 18.2% (+24.9% for non EU and +13% for EU countries) for imports. The trade balance showed a deficit of 22.2 billion Euro. It was 15.4 in the same period of 2010.
