Price indices for energy production

In January 2009, Istat began publishing a new version of the price indexes for industrial products sold in the domestic market, using 2005 as the reference base (as required by European Regulation for short-term statistics no. 1158/2005) and the new ATECO 2007 classification (Italian version of the Nace Rev. 2).

The statistical tables that can be downloaded facilitate in-depth time series analyses (from 2006 up to the latest month available) for the prices of energy products (RPI of Energy), which are differentiated within section D (Electric, gas, steam and air) and sub-section CD (refined petroleum products). The latter indexes are further broken down into: Fuels, Heating products, Other combustibles and lubricants, Hydrocarbons (bitumen).

Calculation of the indexes begins with price quotes for a basket of products that is associated with a list of companies that make and market their own products directly. The manufacturing cost is the producer's price, excluding VAT.

The elementary product index represents the average of the micro-indexes associated with each price quote. Summary indexes are calculated using the Laspeyres formula in accordance with aggregations from the Nace Rev. 2 classification.

Data from the monthly survey of producer prices are published 30 days after the end of the period of reference.
